Dutch explorer Willem de Valmingh officially discovered and named Rottnest Island in 1696. Since that time, it has had a number of roles to play, as the colony evolved into the vibrant state of Western Australia. James Connolly nominated the first administrative body in 1917 and, since that time, there have been several attempts to adapt the administration to meet changing community expectations. To discover a path to financial sustainability remains the challenge, ensuring that the "Rottnest Experience" remains unchanged. And so the question - where to from here?
