Being qualified as a furniture designer naturally lead Simon tot he furniture industry, first as a designer then to subsequently run small furniture factory in Sydney. After selling the business and traveling around the would for a year, he decided to settle in Perth in the mid 1970’s. After lecturing in furniture design for several years he returned to the commercial world eventually to run an office design practice.
His real passion though was the natural history world and more specifically the study of ornithology. This led to forming a birding company, which he ran for twenty two years taking overseas birding groups around Australia. During the last ten years he combined the tour business with writing books and finally to concentrate on what he much prefers, producing books.
