The Museum of Perth is partnering with PRIDE WA to hold a very special exhibition "25 PRIDE" which celebrates the 25th year of Pride Western Australia.
The exhibition showcases posters, photographs, video work and objects commemorating PRIDE held in the archives of the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Western Australia (GALAWA).
Over 25 years PRIDE has grown and transformed. Beginning in the early days of the Stonewall Union of Students WA, it became a grass roots political movement formed to combat the active discrimination of the time, transformed to become the Pride Collective, then Lesbian and Gay Pride WA and currently Pride WA, a celebration of the community; now fighting for the right to marry.
GALAWA formed in the mid 1990s to collect and protect, precious material from the community. The GALAWA collection is housed securely in the basement of Murdoch University Library. A new committeeformed in 2015 to revitalise the collection and we are working towards this. GALAWA is always interested in new members who wish to join and be a part of the committee, assist with archival work or to assist in other ways.
This exhibition has been curated by Guy Gomez, co-convenor of GALAWA with the support of GALAWA, in partnership with Pride WA.
Exhibition opening times: Mon-Fri 9am-3pm / Sat 9am - 2pm
Entrance fee: Gold coin donation to the Museum of Perth
